Classical and Contemporary:
Between Yesterday and Tomorrow
The concert ‘Classical and Contemporary: Between Yesterday and Tomorrow’ offers a fascinating musical journey with mezzo-soprano Yana Mann and cellist Arseniy Chubachin.
The first part of the evening is firmly rooted in the Romantic tradition. The audience can expect timeless works by Schubert, Brahms, Grieg and Mendelssohn - including Schubert's famous ‘Ave Maria’ and Mendelssohn's delicate miniature ‘Lied ohne Worte’. Rachmaninoff's emotional ‘Vocalise’ enriches the programme, as do Debussy's impressionistic ‘Beau Soir’ and Gershwin's iconic ‘Summertime’, which combines European sophistication with American sensuality.
The second part of the programme features contemporary music by Grammy-nominated composer David T. Little, one of the most distinctive voices of our time. His works such as ‘Archaeology’ and excerpts from the opera ‘JFK’ form the emotional centre of the programme and explore themes such as memory, silence and inner tensions through innovative vocal experiments. The portrait of Jacqueline Kennedy in ‘JFK’ is both intimate and mythical - the image of a woman suspended between history and grief.
